The government aims to boost the revenue of the postal department by 50-60% over the next three to four years, driven by a strategic focus on logistics, Telecom Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia stated in September.
The government is set to transform India Post into a full-fledged logistics organization, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced while presenting the Union Budget 2025-26 on February 1.
Highlighting the postal department’s vast potential, Telecom Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia had earlier emphasized its capability to deliver essential services to rural and remote areas. He stated that the government aims to boost India Post’s revenue by 50-60% over the next three to four years through a strong logistics push.
The transformation plan was initially outlined by Scindia in September 2024, where he revealed efforts to restructure India Post into a competitive logistics entity. In a December 2024 meeting, he presented a new development roadmap focusing on cost rationalization and digitalization of key processes to enhance operational efficiency.
Presenting the first full Budget of Modi 3.0, Sitharaman also announced “transformative” reforms across six key sectors—tax, power, urban development, mining, financial sector, and regulatory frameworks.
With the proposed reforms, India Post is expected to play a crucial role in expanding logistics infrastructure and enhancing last-mile connectivity across the country.
