The Railway Ministry announced a significant achievement for India’s logistics and transportation sector in January 2025

with the Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC) operating 391 trains daily. This milestone underscores DFC’s pivotal role in enhancing efficiency and supporting industrial growth. The Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor (EDFC) operated 209 trains per day, while the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor (WDFC) ran 182 trains daily, reflecting increased reliance on DFC for seamless freight transportation.

Meja Urja Nigam Private Limited was connected to DFCCIL at Station New Unchdih on December 9, 2023, and in January 2025, a record 175 rakes were handled, highlighting DFCCIL’s improved efficiency in meeting industrial demands.

During the Maha-Kumbh Mela, the DFC played a crucial role in supporting the Prayagraj Division, ensuring smooth movement of both passenger and freight trains. By diverting 100% freight traffic from East Central Railway and North Central Railway to EDFC, the corridor alleviated congestion and facilitated the operation of Mahakumbh Special trains on saturated routes.

The Ministry emphasized that EDFC’s strategic role in decongesting the Prayagraj Division of North Central Railway has enabled convenient travel for millions of pilgrims attending the grand religious gathering.
