Emphasizing the Ministry’s steadfast commitment to maintaining seamless and secure cargo movement, Minister Sonowal convened high-level meetings in Mumbai. These sessions, attended by top officials and stakeholders, focused on bolstering supply chain resilience and averting disruptions in maritime operations.

“In light of evolving geopolitical dynamics, our priority remains safeguarding uninterrupted cargo flow,” underscored Minister Sonowal, highlighting the imperative of vigilance and operational continuity. Key agencies, including the Shipping Corporation of India (SCI), Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA), Indian Port Rail and Ropeway Corporation Ltd. (IPRCL), Indian Port Global Ltd. (IPGL), Mumbai Port Authority, and the Directorate General of Shipping, participated in these deliberations.

Minister Sonowal also conducted a thorough assessment of strategic initiatives under Maritime India Vision 2047, aiming to position India as a global maritime hub. This included a detailed review of the National Maritime Heritage Complex (NMHC) at Lothal, Gujarat, celebrating India’s maritime legacy. Highlighting the discussion was a strategic review of the Greenfield Mega Port at Vadhavan with JNPA Chairman Unmesh Wagh, emphasizing its pivotal role in expanding India’s global shipping presence as envisioned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Additionally, strategic discussions with IPGL Chairman Sunil Mukundan focused on advancing international operations, particularly the development of Chabahar Port in Iran and Sittwe Port in Myanmar, crucial for enhancing regional connectivity and trade influence.

“Under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, we are harnessing the vast potential of the blue economy to propel India towards comprehensive development,” remarked Minister Sonowal.

Secretary T.K. Ramachandran and senior officials reaffirmed the Ministry’s dedication to accelerating infrastructure projects and ensuring preparedness amidst geopolitical uncertainties.
